The artist painter Ivan Tafrov was born in Plovdiv and graduated from the Art High School in his hometown and the National Art Academy in Sofia.
In 2006, he ranked in the top 100 finalists of the ARC salon in the USA, the most prestigious and popular competition for contemporary realism in the world.
In 2007, he qualified for the BP Portrait Award in London - the most prestigious portrait competition in the world, organized by the National Portrait Gallery in London.
In 2009, 2014 and 2017, at the invitation of the National Portrait Gallery - London, he participated in three editions of the Portrait Gala Evening under the patronage of Kate Middleton. His picture "Denica" was selected and published in the prestigious album "500 portraits on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the BP Portrait Award" edition of the National Portrait Gallery London.
