KALOYAN KUMANOV was born in Dobrich, but graduated from Prof. Assen Diamandiev Academy for Music, Dance and Visual Arts in Plovdiv. After graduating in Bulgaria, he was admitted to the State University of Barcelona, where he specialized in music pedagogy and conducting.
In the homeland of bullfighting and flamenco, he became the soloist and first accordionist in the Sabadell Accordion Orchestra with conductor Maestro Miguel Angel. As a member of this ensemble, he toured not only all over Spain, but also stages as the Music Theatre of Mendelssohn and Johann S. Bach in Leipzig.
He teaches accordion, piano, solfège and choir at the Liceu Conservatory. He inspires his students at the Orfeó Gracienc Music School, as well as at the Music Academy on the island of Menorca, where he is also the first conductor of the Accordion Orchestra. He is famous as one of the few musicians in Europe who is a virtuoso performer of classical works on the accordion, and he takes it as a personal mission to change the attitude towards this multi-layered instrument.
He recently decided to abandon a successful career in Spain to return home. Due to nostalgia and the desire to create on a world level in his own country, he set up Leyenda (from Spanish - legend) and started the Kaloyan Kumanov project.
